House Chronicles 2

The house building is moving right along and we're closing in on the home stretch these days.

Right before we left for our family vacation in mid-August, we had a pre-drywall walk through with our construction manager.  It was the first time we'd been inside the structure that felt like an actual house!

The exterior as you see it when driving up the street.  Where the black dirt pile is located on the right side is actually another lot on the corner of the street, but the house will actually be perpendicular to ours with the back of that house facing the side of ours.

The holding pond we are pretending is a real body of water - ha!

Our family room fireplace wall.

2 weeks ago, we ventured down to the house one weekend to show my parents and the kids the progress post-drywall.  It felt even more like home this time!

Same picture of the family room

Our kitchen.  The left wall will house the fridge, double ovens, and cook top.  The half wall on the right will house the sink and dishwasher and a long counter top.  Where the drywall is sitting will be a large diagonal L shaped island.

Grandpa and Finley in our morning room - where our big old harvest table will go.  This is my favorite space so far just because of all of the windows.

Stairs in our entryway - the stairs face the kitchen.

Flex room or in our case playroom/office/living room initially.  The front of the house is outside the windows and the entry is to the R of this picture.

Master tub

Part of the upstairs hallway with the stairs on the right, then laundry, Fin's room, and a linen closet.
The master bedroom is behind the picture and Fiona's room and guest room are to the left of the picture.

The basement - again loving all the windows.  Our longer range plan is to put a screened in porch under our deck - you would enter it from this sliding glass door.

A few views of the back of the house.

And the front.  Having lived with a tiny 2 car garage for the past 8 years, this 3 car felt like a castle.

Another bonus of visiting the house this particular Sunday was that some neighbors were out.  We went outside of our comfort zones and walked over to meet them.  We met 2 families with 5 kids between them - all ages around our girls.  They were coming back from the park with the kids in their motorized vehicles, so I think the Barbie convertible will fit it just fine!  The neighborhood is only about 5 months old and about 1/3 occupied, so we are looking forward to meeting a bunch more people once we move in and other homes are finished.  I wanted to be in before Halloween, so the girls could trick-or-treat in the new 'hood!

The best news of our pre-drywall meeting in August was that we found out our CLOSING DATE!!!  We had been told early/mid October all along, but our closing was moved up to September 30th.  At this point that is 26 days away!  We have been busy setting up movers, pod delivery, appliance delivery, the girls first day at the new school, etc.  We can't believe it's getting this close.

We're planning to head back down this weekend to see the floors and cabinets installed!
