Finley's room has been completed (well 99% anyways) since right after Fiona was born. We started the conversion from unpainted guest room to big girl room in March of 2012 - mere weeks before Fiona's arrival! It was crazy putting it all together so quickly, but we had help from Aunt Nini (painter extraordinaire)!
When Pat and Nini started painting the room, they quickly ran out of paint. Pat ran to the store to get another gallon, but it wasn't until the next morning that we all realized the 2 gallons were slightly different colors. After much debate and crying tears of frustration at 9 months pregnant, we re-painted the room. Ugh.
The room has 2 matching Jenny Lind beds (a gift from my parent's old neighbors) which I sprayed an aqua blue. Growing up I always wanted 2 twin beds in my room and I cant wait until Fiona is old enough to spend the occasional night in there.
The beds are quite high off of the ground, so when we first moved her into the beds we had only the mattress on the frame (a bed rail wouldn't fit into the antique frames), but we quickly realized she didn't move much in her sleep and so decided to put the box springs in and added a step stool at the end of the bed to give her a boost up.
Her room has 3 large windows that all get morning sun. We have honeycomb blinds on them now, but not room darkening shades. She is an early riser and likes to "read" by the evening sunlight in the summer, so we haven't made the investment for anything more.
The print was a gift from Aunt Nini - it's the song we rocked her to bed with as a baby!
She loves her sock monkeys.
The dresser was mine growing up - I remember picking it out at the furniture store and waiting patiently the 8 weeks until it arrived. Maybe that was a sign that I would love decorating my own house some day! We painted it and added new knobs. It's not perfect, but I like it that way. I don't worry about Finley banging drawers or roughing it up with play.
The plates are a random collection of vintage/thrift finds and it's so random that when I find a new one, I just tack it up and add to the collection.
My mom stitched the number print for my room when I was little - I love that it's hanging in Finley's room now!
The bookshelf just might be the greatest piece in the room. It allows Fin (and now Fiona) to see all of the books and access them while taking up very little space.
I have weeded out about 50% of her stuffed animals, but the remaining ones spend their days in this pop-up bin from Ikea : )
She has already started asking if she can have a purple room...I keep telling her that when she goes to kindergarten, we can paint something purple (maybe the beds?!) I'm not painting these walls again!
So far it has been the perfect place for reading books, cousin sleepovers, and hiding out from her little sis. The perfect description for a big girl room!
