Potty Time

Well, I've been avoiding potty training for a long time.  Basically since Fiona was born.  We gave it the old college try right before Fin's 2nd birthday and looking back now, she just wasn't ready.  So, I automatically assumed she would never be ready, would go to prom in diapers, or that I would be pulling out my hair trying to get her to go on the potty...BUT, like every other major life change (Getting rid of the nuk, big girl bed, new daycare...) this girl just takes it in stride and handles it better than mom and dad. 

I've long since planned for Labor Day weekend to be potty training weekend and I knew we needed to just do the 3 day method again because my brain is still a bit overwhelmed and I didn't know if I'd remeber when she was wearing undies vs pull-ups vs diapers.  So, we had a long weekend and weren't going anywhere - perfect.  Plus, aunt Nini was coming to town so there'd be an extra hand to help out.

Friday night we went to Target to pick out a potty.  It plays music and has a real toilet paper holder!  We also picked out treats, juice, and stickers.   

She woke up Saturday morning and we read 2 books about going potty (which she's read a handful of times) and said there were no more diapers.  She put on her undies and promptly acted like she had to poop, so we put her on the potty and she went.  The first day we timed every 15 mins and encouraged her to drink anything she wanted.  It worked and she loved her musical potty, but strangely also loved sitting on the big toilet even without the little seat thingy.  She also got either Skittles or Reece's which she obviously loved as well. 

Days 2-3 we spaced out the time and even made a few trips out on day 2 to Home Depot and Michaels where she used both of the toilets!  (pictured above).  She had one pee accident and 2 poops over those 2 days - I was happy.  Day 4 she had no accidents, but I was a bit nervous about daycare.

She went pee at daycare, but not until like 9:00am.  I got a text from Renee updating me and she said Finley went on the toilet and came out of the bathroom saying "You guys, I just went on the potty!!!!"  So cute.  Unfortunately, she had a poop accident there which poses a bit of a problem because its pretty gross for Renee to deal with especially with other kids around.  So, she was in pull ups for 2 days at daycare until she pooped and then put on undies and at home is in undies with us.  It's still up in the air whether she'll do #2 on the toilet or not (both scenarios happened this weekend).  She's in pull-ups for nap and at night. 

All in all, we've returned to normal life and I just carry an extra outfit and undies in my purse.  She loves to pee on the potty and says things like "Mama, I peed on the potty, are you soooo happy?"  haha, yes I am.  Hopefully in a few weeks we'll have #2 all figured out, too!
