Big Girl Room

We had a busy, busy weekend with Aunt Nini in town helping us start and attempt to finish Finley's big girl room.  We ran into a few speed bumps along the way and of course didn't quite reach my goal of a completely finished room, but she is sleeping in the room which is success enough : )

Pat and I started painting on Friday afternoon and when Annie came on Saturday we finished it up during Fin's nap time.  The room had not been painted before and took 2 gallons of paint!  Also, the room has a lot of awkward angles, so it required a lot of cutting in (yuck).  We spent Saturday night at a neighbors house, feeling pretty good at what we'd accomplished.  Sunday morning, I began to paint the dresser in the room and something caught my eye on the wall - it looked like the paint was uneven.  And then I looked around the room and you could see all of the trimming vs rolling and even differences in that.  The only explanation we could come up with was that one of the cans of paint was mis-tinted.  Oh, pain in the butt.  We needed a third gallon and another 3 hours to paint another coat on the walls.  Pat was really close to attacking the paint salesman at Home Depot and I called my mom crying : )

I do love the color though - Martha Stewart's "Malted" (mixed in Glidden's Duo = horrible paint)

We took the 2 Jenny Lind beds from this...

to this...

Fin's lamp is now full of blocks - which she has wanted to take out and play with a few times!

Drumroll please...here are a few after shots of what we worked on:

The dresser is a neutral army greenish gray that I'm so glad I found.  She's waiting for pretty knobs to replace the old wooden ones.

Tuesday night Finley slept in her Big Girl Bed!!  Fingers crossed, we haven't had any major issues yet, but I have purposely kept out a lot of accessories so that she wouldn't have anything to lure her out of bed.  I'll re-cap her transition after we've made it a week or so.

I have 4 weeks left to get art up on the walls, finish painting the trim, order new room darkening shades and hang the curtains, clean out the closet, load up the dresser with her clothes, and set-up a reading nook.  That seems ambitious at this point, but hopefully this nesting vibe continues for a few more weeks!

SOO cute!! I always think a painting project will be easier than it turns out to be....I would've called your mom crying, too! ;) And 16 months later V still has a dark sheet over her window as a blackout shade. Talk about lack of ambition! T-4 weeks....wow!
