How different were our lives last week? I can't believe how drastically things have changed around our house and most amazingly how we ever lived without this little girl!
Some highlights from the 1st week:
*we've learned (just like every other parent of a newborn) that it is possible to survive on less than 3 hours of sleep!
*she slept between 3-4 hours in one single bout the last 2 nights and we feel like we've won the lottery.
*I took my first shower in under 5 minutes today while she was sleeping right outside the shower door.
*Finley's 1st outing included a visit to the pediatrician to check her weight (right on track) and she didn't pee on the scale!!
*Then we went to Target...couldn't figure out how to put the carseat in the cart...stalked another new mom through the frozen food section to see how her carseat was positioned but didn't actually ask her...finally figured out our cart was jacked up so Pat ended up just winging it and holding on tight!
*I realized my wimpy biceps will need to get a lot stronger to lift the car seat into the car...it takes all my might right now.
*Her poor little squished nose was really stuffed up the first few days and so we've added a vaporizer, saline drops, and the little bulb suction to our regimen. She usually sneezes in 3's or 4's and it's pretty cute.
*When she's really hungry she'll suck on her hand like it's the best thing she's ever tasted, but she hasn't quite figured out that there's a thumb to suck on as well.
*She's out of newborn diapers and into size 1. We've got a few newborn outfits she fits into and plan to wear them all in the next few weeks!
*Speaking of clothes, mom needs to remeber to wear them: after my quick shower today I didn't have time to put on pants before she was awake and fussing, so I took her downstairs and staring in the front door's window was the FedEx man! Good thing my shirt was long enough to reach mid-thigh.
So far, being Finley's parent has been the hardest - but most rewarding experience. We can't wait to see what the coming weeks bring.
Cheers to many more firsts!
